As the global movement toward ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) sustainability continues to gain momentum, environmental education has become an increasingly important issue worldwide. Surrounded by the ocean and blessed with over 1,200 kilometers of coastline, Taiwan possesses abundant and diverse marine resources. However, decades of overdevelopment and marine pollution have severely impacted coastal ecosystems. Protecting coastlines and restoring marine environments have therefore become critical responsibilities for both island communities and businesses striving for sustainable development.
To help preserve Taiwan’s coastal ecology and demonstrate its long-term commitment to the Chiayi region, GreenRock Energy partnered with the RE-THINK Environmental Education Association and local organizations in Budai Township to launch the “Let’s Go Beach Cleanup” campaign. The event was held on May 11 at the wave-dissipating block area in Haomei Village, Budai Township, Chiayi County.
The initiative received strong support from local leaders, including Mr. Chiu Pin, Chairman of the Budai Township Representative Council, and Ms. Tsai Tsui-Lien, Secretary of the Budai Township Office, who joined GreenRock employees in encouraging local residents to participate and contribute to the preservation of Budai’s beautiful coastline.
Guided by its corporate vision of “Green the World,” GreenRock Energy places great importance on ESG initiatives and is committed to advancing renewable energy development while fostering harmonious coexistence between industry, communities, and the environment. As part of its commitment to local engagement, GreenRock actively organizes and participates in community events throughout the Budai and Yizhu regions of Chiayi.
Beyond environmental initiatives such as beach cleanups, GreenRock has also supported local cultural and community activities, including sponsorship of the Yizhu Mulberry Festival and traditional temple celebrations. The company regularly conducts winter charity programs and senior care initiatives, and has hosted annual landowner appreciation gatherings for three consecutive years. During the COVID-19 pandemic, GreenRock proactively provided epidemic prevention supplies to local communities.
Believing that sustainable development must go hand in hand with community prosperity, GreenRock Energy remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that promote environmental conservation and local cultural development. The Budai beach cleanup once again demonstrated that “Green the World” is far more than a slogan—it is a core value deeply embedded within the company’s culture.
Participation in the cleanup was entirely voluntary, with employees signing up of their own accord. Through this initiative, GreenRock hopes to spread environmental awareness and inspire more people to take action in protecting marine ecosystems and restoring the cleanliness of local coastal areas.
During the cleanup event, participants successfully removed a total of 2,916 kilograms of marine waste, including 2,500 kilograms of large-scale debris. Among the collected waste were giant plastic bag remnants and anchors used for fixed fishing nets, highlighting the long-standing marine pollution challenges facing Taiwan’s southwestern coastal waters.
Every participant contributed to safeguarding Taiwan’s oceans while gaining a deeper understanding of the environmental impact caused by marine debris. GreenRock Energy hopes that this event will further raise environmental awareness within local communities, encourage the reduction of single-use products, and demonstrate that small actions in daily life can collectively make a significant difference in protecting Taiwan’s marine environment and restoring the beauty of its coastlines.
